Our Request: When you come to enjoy the beautiful skating trails on Seymour Lake, please consider leaving your dog at home. We love our furry friends too, but about 20 families draw water from Seymour Lake and the amount of dog poop that is left on the ice is alarming. In addition, there are safety concerns because unleashed dogs sometimes knock over and injure skaters.
Note: Skating on Seymour Lake is an activity that you do at your own risk. The Seymour Lake Conservation Society takes no responsibility for injuries incurred by skaters. It is the responsibility of each skater to check the thickness of the ice.

This is our last blog post for this season. With the warm and wet weather, the ice is not good for skating. Spring is in the air!

Feb. 17, 2026

Feb. 9, 2026
Conditions: fair-good
Time: 7:30 am
The ice conditions are variable; there are some smooth sections and some bumpy sections. Be careful because there is a fresh skiff of snow on the lake, which makes it difficult to spot the rough sections. With the recent warm weather, the ice has lost some thickness. We will take an auger down to the lake to test the thickness of the ice. We'll post our findings on this blog.
Feb. 8, 2026
Conditions: fair-good
Time: 10:00 am
The temperature dipped enough last night to solidify the ice. You can skate on the ice right now. There are some smooth sections and some bumpy sections to watch out for.
Feb. 4, 2026
Conditions: poor everywhere
Time: 8:00 am
It is another rainy day...
Feb. 3, 2026
Conditions: poor everywhere
Time: 7:00 am
The good news is that the warm weather is causing the ice to smooth on the sections that were previously not good for skating. The bad news is that there is a layer of water on top of the ice right now. Let's keep our fingers crossed that (when it gets colder) we get that "perfect freeze."
Feb. 1, 2026
Conditions: oval and trails: poor
Time: 9:34 am
The ice is in great shape, but due to the warm weather, there is a layer of water on top of the ice right now.
Jan. 31, 2026
Conditions: oval and trails: poor
Time: 7:50 am
We are sorry to report that the ice is a patchwork of places where you can skate and places where you can't skate. Unfortunately, you can't piece them together to skate from one place to another.
Jan. 30, 2026
Conditions: oval and trails: poor
Time: 3:16 pm
This is not a good day for skating because there is an inch of water on the surface of a lot of the lake right now. It is supposed to get colder tonight so let's keep our finger crossed - we might get a perfect freeze. If we do, tomorrow morning will be the best time to skate because it is supposed to get warmer throughout the day and there is a high chance of rain. We will update this blog tomorrow morning to let you know about the condition of the ice.
Jan. 29, 2026
Conditions: oval and trails: poor-fair
Time: 7:50 am
The oval and trails were plowed on the 27th. If the weather was colder, the ice conditions would be excellent for skating. As it is, the above zero temperature is making the ice soft and wet, which is not much fun for skating.
Jan. 27, 2026
Conditions: oval and trails: excellent rest of lake: poor-fair
Time: 1:50 pm
Harvey plowed the oval today. He is out plowing the other trails right now.
If you decide to try to skate "off-trail" then please be aware that there are lots of sections of excellent ice, but there are also lots lots of bumpy places and places where the ice is covered in crusty snow. With the blanket of snow, it is challenging to tell the good ice from the bad ice, so be careful out there.

Conditions: oval and trails: excellent rest of lake: poor-fair
Time: 8:19 am
It snowed last night so the lake is covered with a skiff of snow. This means that the oval and trails are, once again, the places where you want to skate on Seymour Lake. We will update this blog to let you know when the oval and trails get plowed.

Conditions: oval and trails: excellent rest of lake: poor-excellent
Time: 8:20 am
The quality of the ice on the Seymour Lake skating trails is excellent. If you go off the skating trails, the conditions are mixed because there are some excellent sections of ice and other sections that are very bumpy or crusty. If want to skate off-trail and you get on the ice from Seymour Road, we suggest that you skate south because that is where the best ice is to be found. Tyhee Lake had a perfect freeze so the ice is like glass on that lake.
Jan. 19, 2026
Conditions: oval and trails: excellent rest of lake: poor-excellent
Time: 7:00 am
We didn't have a perfect freeze on Seymour Lake, but you can skate all over the lake right now. Some skaters are reporting that Tyhee Lake did have a perfect freeze and that the ice is like glass on that lake.

Conditions: poor-excellent
Time: 8:10 am

This is the best kind of skating day because you can skate all over the lake. It feels special when we can skate off the trails because we usually only get a few days like this every winter. There are challenging areas that you should avoid, but there are some excellent sections too. The north end of the lake is the toughest place to skate because there are lots of bumpy zones and areas where your skate goes through the top layer of ice. If you get on the ice from Seymour Road, we recommend that you skate south because that is where the best ice is to be found. The trails are a mixed bag: fair to excellent.
Jan. 14, 2026
Conditions: variable but getting better overnight
Time: 5:10 pm
The skating trails are still too soft for skating, the rest of the lake (off the trails) is skateable. We didn't get a perfect freeze so the ice isn't like glass. There are challenging areas that you should avoid, but you can skate all over the lake right now. Conditions: too warm for skating
Time:7:52 am
The ice on both the oval and trails is looking great. The rain that happened yesterday was like a natural flood for the ice, filling in cracks and smoothing down bumps. It is going to be warm again today, so the ice will be too soft for skating because your blades will be sinking into it, but when it gets cold again, we should have some excellent skating conditions.

Conditions: Oval: good Other trails: poor-fair
Time:11:25 pm
There is a light blanket of snow on the oval and trails. The snow makes skating challenging because you cannot see where ice becomes bumpy or cracked. The oval is definitely the best place to skate. Harvey just started plowing the oval. If you are thinking about coming out for a skate on the oval at lunchtime, it is a great day to do that.

Jan. 2, 2026
Conditions: Oval: fair-good Other trails: poor
Time: 9:15 am
The ice on the oval is good for skating, but it is covered with a light layer of snow. The blanket of snow makes skating challenging because, you cannot see where the sections of ice become bumpy. The other trails are covered with snow as well. The good news is that the trails hardened up quite a bit over the night. In many places, the ice can now support a person's weight without breaking and sending them into a layer of slush. The bad news is that the ice needs to thicken some more before it can support the weight of the ATV plow.

The blanket of snow on the oval, makes skating there challenging because, you cannot see where the sections of ice become bumpy. The other trails are covered with snow as well. Conditions on the trails are poor because the wet spots have not completely frozen so when you are trying to skate, you break through the top layer of ice and come to a dead stop in slush. It is best to walk out to the oval if you want to skate on it because if you try to skate on the trails, it will leave gouges in the ice that could remain for the rest of the season.

Harvey just finished plowing the oval. The ice is bumpy and there are some cracks.
Dec. 26, 2025
Conditions: fair
Today, Harvey began creating the public skating trail system on Seymour Lake by making an oval. There are a few wet patches on the lake, but the oval is not near them. Harvey made an attempt at starting a trail down the western side of the lake but stopped when he hit a wet spot.
